• Relationships with boys: You’ll learn the Duggar view of dating and courtship, and these four sisters will address the often-asked question of when one of them will get married.

Review

I’m a big fan of the Duggars show so I thought I would like their book and I was right. I don’t have much time to read with 3 kids under 3 to take care of but I’ve managed to finish the book within a week, which is fast for me. This particular book is written by the four oldest daughters, and it really helps you to look at their family life through their eyes.  They give a lot of insight into the workings of the family and how they deal with their parents and each other.  The book was easy to read, interesting, and insightful.  I highly recommend it.

    Review

The Bible is clear about one thing…we reap what we sow.  This book reminds us that we need to look outside ourselves and our own needs to the needs of others and that we can never, never out-give God.  This is a very inspirational read that is a solid reminder of that very fact. The sheer diversity of stories and differing scales of the various stories showcased are great. This book is a call to action. The author encourages us to see where God is working around us and be ready to act when He calls you to it. And it isn’t always about money.  There is plenty to do for others that won’t cost you a dime.  This book is a quick and easy read and will encourage you towards living a generous life.

Longinus is a Roman centurion haunted by death and failure and is desperate to escape the accursed Judean province. Accepting a wager that will get him away from the aggravating Jews and their threats of revolt, he sets out to catch the thieves harassing the marketplace.

When a controversial teacher miraculously heals Cedron, Nissa hopes for freedom from her life of lies. But the supposed miracle brings only more misfortune, and Longinus, seeking to learn more about the mysterious healer, finds himself drawn instead to Nissa, whose secret will determine the course of both their futures.

Cedron, Longinus, and Nissa are unexpectedly caught up in the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus. As danger closes in on them from every side, they must decide if the love and redemption Jesus offers is true or just another false promise. How can the so-called Messiah save them from their shackles, when he cannot even save himself?

      Review

The author tells the story in such a way that you feel as though your right there in ancient Jerusalem at the time of Christ.  As you read, your emotions will run the gamut as you see and feel all that is happening from the characters’  point of view as they come face to face with Jesus and get caught up in His trial and crucifixion.  After they have nailed His feet & hands to the cross you will ask yourself how could He love us so much & willing suffer all that He suffered for someone as undeserving as I. This is a book that will make you feel the love of God!.

        Review

I came across this book a short while ago and found it to be an enlightening read. It’s clear that the author has put some thought into his work and has obviously researched his topic and presents difficult information in a user-friendly way.  Though the premise of the book is quite serious, I would consider it an easy read.  What I like best about this book is that while most authors who write to alarm Christians of the decline of  America, this book is really a call to action, giving us steps to take to do our part to bring our Nation back to God.

          Miss Brenda and the Loveladies

Miss Brenda and the Loveladies: A Heartwarming True Story of Grace, God, and GumptionMiss Brenda and The Loveladies
By Brenda Spahn and Irene Zutell
          Waterbrook
          Retail Price $19.99
          Amazon Price: $14.82

          Book Description:

For Brenda Spahn, entrepreneur and businesswoman, wealth was a lifestyle—until a brush with the law threatened to send her to prison. In those dark moments, Brenda made a promise to God.

Spared incarceration, a renewed Brenda glimpsed into the lives of women serving time in one of the worst places in America—the Julia Tutwiler Prison for Women in Wetumpka, Alabama.

What she saw prompted a God-inspired vision.

With a heart to help and a will that couldn’t be crushed, Brenda fought the system and overcame tremendous obstacles to take ex-cons into her own home and help them navigate the alien world of life on the outside.

This is the story of Brenda’s journey from rags to riches to redemption. It’s the story of the first unlikely year of her “Whole Way House” and of the extraordinary lives of the first seven women who came to call her “Miss Brenda.” It’s a story that testifies to the power of faith and how God changes hearts every day.

          Reviews

If we look deep within ourselves, I think we find that most women want to make a difference in their sphere of influence.  Sometimes it takes a “near miss” to get us there.  That is exactly what happened to Brenda Spahn.  In this book she shares her journey of how God has worked in her life and helped her to help others.  Spahn is truly an inspiration to all women. Not only does she succeed she lets you know that there will be obstacles to overcome, but you can and will succeed if you keep your priorities in order, putting God first.   No good thing in life comes easily, but through perseverance to follow a God-given  dream, there is nothing you can’t do and no one’s life that you can’t touch. The book is very well-written and evokes many emotions; it had me laughing and crying and turning the page for more.
